What is the best Welltory alternative for Apple Watch?
It depends on why you’re leaving. For training recovery, look at Athlytic. For an all-in-one health platform, look at Bevel. For glanceable stress readings through the day, look at StressWatch. For a published formula, look at Cortisol+ or Health Genie. If you just want to stop paying, start with Apple’s built-in Vitals and Sleep Score.
Disclosure: Cortisol+ publishes this guide and is one of the options listed. We compared official App Store listings, help centres and Apple support pages, all checked October 20, 2026. We haven’t run hands-on or clinical accuracy tests, and this list isn’t ranked by accuracy.
Why people look for a Welltory alternative
Welltory is a large, cross-platform HRV app. It works with Apple Watch, many other wearables, or your phone camera, and has a strong focus on pacing for chronic illness. Common reasons people look elsewhere include its range of subscription plans, wanting an Apple Watch-first design, wanting to see how a score is calculated, or preferring data that stays on the device.

Athlytic: for training recovery
Athlytic turns overnight HRV and resting heart rate into a Recovery score, then adds exertion targets, detailed sleep metrics and training load. It’s well rated, says it processes data on the device without an account, and publishes a 7-day free trial. Its stress view is secondary, based on time spent above your heart-rate baseline. Bevel: for an all-in-one health app
Bevel covers recovery, strain, sleep, stress, nutrition, strength training, lab records and glucose monitors in one place. Its help centre lists the inputs for each score, and the app integrates Garmin, Oura and Fitbit. AI features use credit packs on top of Bevel Pro. Read Bevel vs Cortisol+.
StressWatch: for glanceable stress readings
StressWatch updates a real-time stress level from heart rate and HRV roughly every six minutes, with watch-face complications. Its documentation is candid that it tracks physical, not emotional, stress. Read StressWatch vs Cortisol+.
Body Insights: for a generous free tier
Body Insights is an indie app whose developer says its core features are free: fitness age, sleep scores, stress, HRV, recovery and Body Battery. Premium adds training load, glucose-monitor integration and an illness-prediction feature. The developer says it flags risk two to three days early, though no validation is published on the site. It focuses on people pacing ME/CFS, Long COVID and post-viral recovery.
Health Genie: for a simple published formula
Health Genie gives one 0–100 Vitality Score from steps, resting heart rate and sleep. Its methodology page publishes the exact weights and fallbacks. It doesn’t use HRV and has no Apple Watch app, so it’s a general activity-and-rest summary rather than a stress tracker. It is new and has few ratings so far.
Cortisol+: for a stress score you can inspect
Cortisol+ combines up to ten Apple Health inputs into a 0–100 wellness score, with HRV and sleep weighted 20% each. The methodology publishes every weight, how the baseline builds over 28 readings, and how missing data is handled. Despite the name, it does not measure cortisol. It’s free to download; analysis requires a subscription or an eligible trial. For a direct comparison, read Welltory vs Cortisol+.
Apple’s built-in features: for no extra subscription
Before paying for anything, check what your Watch already does. The Vitals app compares overnight heart rate, breathing rate, wrist temperature and blood oxygen with your typical range. Sleep Score rates each night out of 100 from duration, bedtime consistency and interruptions. On Series 12 and Ultra 4, Apple also adds Recovery HRV and a Readiness score. None of these is a named stress score, and the Mindfulness app’s State of Mind log is self-reported.
What about Lifestack?
Lifestack appears in some Welltory-alternative lists, but Lifestack is an AI planner. It uses wearable sleep and activity data to schedule your tasks into energy zones, rather than giving you an HRV or stress score. It’s worth a look if you want your calendar to adapt to how rested you are, but it isn’t a direct replacement for Welltory.
How to choose
- Write down the one question you want answered: training readiness, daily stress, sleep quality, or pacing with illness.
- Check what Apple Health and the built-in Vitals app already show you.
- Trial no more than two apps at a time with the same Watch, and compare readings from the same days.
- Read the subscription terms before a trial converts.
- No app on this list measures cortisol or diagnoses anything. Use an appropriate test for hormone questions; see can Apple Watch measure cortisol?
